Bothan Blasting Corporation: A History
In the days of the Old Republic, Bothawui Mining was established to keep up with the expansion of the now named Bothan Sector. Originally founded by a Bothan of the name Gaieus Sach’tor and headquartered in the capital city of Drev’starn, Bothawui Mining led a very lucrative business as one of the only mining corporations in the growing Bothan Sector. Even though the Bothawui Sector had very little in terms of natural resources, Sach’tor and his men were able to coin new techniques in searching for raw materials and extracting them from the ground. This lead to a higher cost of the materials but still lower then importing the materials from neighboring sectors, allowing Bothawui Mining to grow very quickly.
When the Galactic Empire rose from a failing Republic, new technologies rose that allowed importing to begin to overshadow the native mining corporations. Mining companies from all over the sector began to close down because of the lowered demand of native materials. Bothawui Mining got hit the hardest with this new form of commerce and began to go into a large slump. Sach’tor was forced to borrow money in order to keep the business from sinking in return of interest on the investment. When he couldn’t deliver the interest the banks, threatened to reposes the assets of the company. Facing dis-honor among his clan, Sach’tor took his own life in an office fire that took out Bothawui Mining’s headquarter building.
The remaining executives of the company, in an effort to keep the company afloat, sold off most of the assets to the banks to pay back Sach’tor’s loan and was forced to relocate to one of Bothawui’s smaller cities. Bothawui Mining was then lead by a board of executives that looked over the interest of the small company rather then one person. Relatively unsuccessful without the prowess and knowledge of Sach’tor, Bothawui Mining just barely remained afloat, providing small loads of raw materials to construction projects just on Bothawui.
The Rebel Alliance began the Galactic Civil War with the Galactic Empire and the need for raw materials grew exponentially. Unfortunately, the board of executives was populated fully with Bothans that lead internal bickering for control of the company. Bothawui Mining’s leadership split into many fragments over trivial matters and growth of the company was not allowed to move forward.
Meanwhile, the Bothan Sector stayed under local control until a band of Imperials that were disheartened at the atrocious state of the Galactic Empire under the control of Emperor Bonias, took station in the Sector as a headquarter. Calling themselves the New Imperial Order and opening their arms to the galaxy for people of like minds to join them, they began to play a part in the Bothan Sector’s politics. Spending large sums of credits to seek expansion and security of the Sector, the New Imperial Order began to slowly take control of the area until the residents of the Bothan Sector declared the New Imperial Order their sole government. Ushering in peace, prosperity, and security in an age of lawlessness across the galaxy.
The Kiner Corporation, an ally of the New Imperial Order, wanted to capitalize on this scenario. Knowing that the New Order will need countless resources for a low price in order to keep up with the quick expansion of the New Order, Kiner began to search for companies to acquire in order to facilitate this need. Kiner looked towards Bothawui Mining as a local answer to this question. The board of executives, also seeing this need of the New Order, was reluctant to sell the company to Kiner. Businessman and former Director of Imperial Intelligence, Charles Slayden along with former Minister of Diplomacy Sesor Yrelnana, were called up by the Kiner Corporatoin to help negotiate the sale of Bothawui Mining. Weeks of negotiation, and a very large sum of credits, finally saw the purchase of Bothawui Mining into the Kiner Corporation as the Bothan Blasting Corporation.
Seeing new ways to extract and process the ore, Charles Slayden was named head of the newly named Bothan Blasting Corporation. The company now provides the raw materials for the expansion and prosperity of the Bothan Sector far more then company’s infamous founder, and today leads the sector in raw materials processed each year.
